"Without health insurance, I might still be waiting for treatment"
Starting a new job should be an exciting time. However for Jacinta, signing on the dotted line for a job with great prospects and a subsidised health insurance plan quickly became one of the scariest moments of her life, when, at the same time, she found a lump in her breast.
Just days into her new work role, Jacinta found a lump in her left breast. Acting quickly, she went to her doctor who then referred her to a specialist. One biopsy later and it was confirmed: she had breast cancer.
Over the next few weeks Jacinta underwent further testing to see how far the cancer had spread. Fortunately, it was fairly well contained. Two weeks after her diagnosis, Jacinta underwent a mastectomy and further biopsy. To clear any cancer remaining in her breast, and to ensure her nodes were clear, a course of radiation therapy was prescribed. This means that only a short time into her policy, TOWER paid out in excess of $20,000 to ensure faster access to care through private treatment facilities.
Jacinta is now back at work, recovering well and extremely thankful she chose to take up her employer's subsidised TOWER health insurance plan - especially as she took the policy out during her first 90 days, when pre-existing conditions are covered (because she found the lump at the same time as taking out the policy, she may not have been covered if this wasn't the case).
Thankful for having an employer who recognises the health of their staff as an asset to the business, Jacinta is repaying their assistance with loyalty. And if she ever does move on shel'll be sure to take her health insurance with her.
What could have happened to Jacinta without health insurance cover?
If Jacinta did not have health insurance cover, she would need to go on the public waiting list for treatment, meaning that, depending on the waiting time, her cancer may have progressed or spread, making her condition worse.
