What our customers say

Quote checklist

Here are some things you'll need to know to complete your quote:

  • The value of your contents. It's common to underestimate the value of what you have.
  • If you want to insure any single item worth more $10,000. This will need to be insured individually.
  • Details of any big ticket items like jewellery, works of art or collections. High value items need to be listed individually if they're worth more than the policy limits.

Contents insurance FAQs

Does contents insurance cover my stuff overseas?

No. Contents insurance only covers your items while you're travelling within New Zealand.

If you're heading overseas, take out a travel insurance policy with us to make sure you're covered.

Do you cover home office equipment?

Our Plus and Premium contents insurance policies do cover your home office. Plus gives cover up to $5,000 at your house and Premium gives cover up to $10,000 at your house.

This coverage applies to any furniture and equipment primarily used at home to earn income. This includes hardware and purchased software.

For more detailed information, check the Plus and Premium contents policies or call us on 0800 379 372.

Does my contents policy cover my flatmates?

No. Your contents policy only covers items you own. Each flatmate should consider getting their own insurance to make sure everything in the house is covered.

Your policy does cover your partner and any of your children you flat with. Make sure you include the value of their items in your policy.

For more details, see our Premium, Plus and Standard contents insurance policies.

What if I lose or damage my phone?

Don't worry. Our Contents insurance policies all cover mobile phones. Standard gives cover up to $500, Plus gives cover up to $1,000 and Premium has no limit on the cover.

If your phone needs repairing, we have a network of skilled technicians who can handle this for you.

Can I cover my hearing aid or spectacles?

Yes. Our contents policies cover your prescription glasses and sunglasses, contacts, hearing aids and removable dentures. We'll repair or replace them if they are damaged, lost or stolen.

We know how important these items can be to your quality of life, so we strive to get these sorted as soon as possible.

If you have either the Plus or Premium contents policy claims for these items will be excess free.

How do I know what my items are worth?

It can be difficult to know how much any specific item is worth, especially after you've owned it for a few years. As a rule of thumb, consider how much it would cost to replace your contents. Not just your electronics and jewellery, but your clothing and kitchen utensils.

To help you estimate this cost, look at prices for similar items. Be aware of sales while you do this. To be safe, always use the standard retail price.
